MANORS NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
Our Aim Is Crime Prevention
In late 2010 we saw a need for a neighbourhood watch which would serve the entire Manors area. A new database of members was created, initially by phoning, e-mailing and going door-to-door to Manors residents with the aim of establishing a coherent and effective body of residents who were passionate about eliminating crime from the area.
This was accomplished, and the current contact list of residents now numbers around 4500 using WhatsApp and BBM instant messaging services, as well as e-mail. These residents receive live crime reports day and night, to which dedicated patrollers respond (assisting the security services and SAPS), as well as regular e-mail updates, informing them of incidents in their area and keeping them abreast of developments within the neighbourhood watch database and its growing membership.
Throughout 2011 and 2012 several big gatherings were organised, taking the form of braais, crime awareness blitzes, and other meetings (some in conjunction with adjacent neighbourhood watch organizations), and were very well attended by residents and security company personnel alike.
Our vision is to broaden the database of members, increase the number of patrollers on our streets, and in so doing, create a neighbourhood which is connected, and totally effective in cleaning our area of criminal activity. So far, the results have been very positive.
2014
We currently have over 4500 residents on our comms network,
110 Whatsapp Crime Alert Groups, 96 Street Captains & 9 Reporters. That is pretty cool and each day we are growing!!
We invite you to be a part of this success, and to get involved in keeping your neighbourhood safe!
